Peter’s Passion: Make Faith Investments

Any worthy pursuit requires investments. Business for example required my friend, Charles, not only to make monetary investments but investments of faith. When things didn’t seem clear in human terms, he trusted an invisible God to take control. I couldn’t think of a person who could best explain “faith investments” better than this guy’s experience. Read on…

I remember in 2007 when I was looking at my bank account. Most of my money dwindled near the maintaining balance. I started to lose hope and looked at myself as a failure…

I wasn’t the typical businessman who is very aggressive and street smart, I was still young -trusting what other people say. I was talking to God and asking Him why these things are happening? I cannot think of any ideas in my mind that would instantly solve my problems, or make my idea a success. I had ZERO ideas on my mind. My heart was in faith and believing for miraculous things to happen… Like Henry Sy would call me and ask me to partner with him (sounds funny, but I was that hopeless) I had no capital to start a big business. Faith and hope are the last things that always kept me talking to GOD, basking for ideas and wisdom in life. Then the day came, an idea started to run in my mind. I said to myself that this idea sounds pretty good but I don’t have any money to start with.

So I lifted my prayers to God. I prayed a prayer similar to Peter’s words:

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”[Matthew 14:28, NIV]

Lord, if it is your plan for me to do this kind of business, please open the doors of opportunity and provide for me…

I then took a step of faith and wrote several letters of intent to 3 big malls in the metro that is when Cotton Depot Textile Ventures, a retail fabric store, started. Submitting only a concept and a business plan, after that,  God’s amazing and immeasurable grace the door opened for me to do business with the 3 biggest malls in the Philippines.

Money didn’t become a problem at all. I do not know how people started to invest and supported me but It was only God’s grace and favor that was upon me. I boldly talked to suppliers and creditors taking, another baby step of faith, to support my idea and my business. Even if I do not have the credibility of a millionaire, suppliers just trusted me with millions and gave me credits and long payment terms.

It took baby steps of faith for me to reach God’s plans for me. Yes, my journey wasn’t a walk in the park, but these steps of faith kept me away from trusting myself and letting God’s hand act in order for HIM to be honored and acknowledge all the time. Every success and failure that I have is on his hands. I Just kept believing in faith and trusting him at all times.
